suspects. amy holyfield joins us live from east oakland. amy? >> police have three people in custody and they are feeling grateful that the officers were not hurt and it ended successfully. they had under cover officers who were out overnight conducting an operation looking for someone who is wanted for a violent crime. that's as specific as they will get. they won't say what it was and it was gang related. they were pursuing something in a car. >> the vehicles shot our police officers. it fled the vehicle. they were able to arrest two immediately. we then set up a large perimeter search for the suspect. >> they set it up around 55th oakland and they launch an intense search. they did find that person and

make an arrest. they found him as he was trying to breakthrough the perimeter. they have him in custody and opened up foothill boulevard. that is the good news. there were two homicides overnight. we asked if they were related and at this point they said they can't release that information, just that it was a busy night and those men were wanted for violent crimes. live in oakland, abc 7 news. >> thanks a lot. >> developing news, the police commissioner said he is pleased with the community where residents were policing themselves. the night time curfew worked to keep people off the streets. there were no incidents reported and they did disburse the crowd with tear gas. ten people were arrested. two for looting and know one for disorderly conduct. 235 people on monday were

arrested after the funeral of freddie gray, a black man who died in police custody. >> in a speech at the white house, president obama noted that the underlying issue in baltimore is poverty. perhaps one of the most relatable items is the number of kids going hungry. an estimated one out of three according to the baltimore sun. the new law would help them get free school lunches. it has gone unsigned by the governor. he said he hasn't had time while dealing with the state of emergency in baltimore. that sparked a community-wide effort to make sure the kids don't go hungry. while they wait baltimore lunch started trending and they got to make and deliver lunches to shelters and neighborhoods. schools are back open this morning. >> after two days of postponing games over sift concerns, the white sox and orioles will play today, however this game will be

closed to the public. no fans in the stand. it is believed to be the first time that fans have not been allowed to watch. they moved their series originally scheduled in baltimore to tropicana field in florida. >> to the disaster in nepal now. the death toll has risen to more than 5,000 following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake. they said 436 americans remain missing and unaccounted for. the world food program official said it will take time for aid to arrive in some villages cutoff by landslides. they are dropping tents, food and medicine. >> a petaluma native was hiking on mt. everest when the quick hit. he is safe. there was a conversation he with his dad. he said i am being helicoptered

of misleading the grand jury. the grand jury indicted them on 27 felony counts. safety code violations and obstruction of justice stem stemming from the blast that killed eight people. according to court documents obtained pg&e said there were serious questions about the indictment. they said the actions led to the obstruction charge had no connections to the san bruno case. >> a man suspected of killing a man from oak excellent expected to take the stand. >> he had an on and off relationship with her. his attorney said he is innocent of stringling her. alana's ex-wife testified about the physical abuse he subjected her to in 1983. >> it's 6:07 and a 47-year-old

man is accused of groping a 12-year-old girl and is under arrest. he turned himself in last night after the surveillance photo was aired and shared on social media more than 10,000 times. tips helped identify the suspect. there could be more victims out there. >> republican presidential candidate marco rubio is in the bay area for a fund-raiser. it will be held in san francisco. yesterday he spoke at the city club in downtown los angeles. in his speech he took aim at the current administration saying the success he had is no longer possible due to crippling regulations. this was the first trip to california since he declared his candidacy. next week hillary clinton makes a visit since declaring her candidacy. >> what do you notice out there? >> there is traffic on the bridge and gray skies.

this marks the first overseas deployment under a formal partnership. officers will train the police and tactical training and car stops and mentoring. they can train them. happening today, arguments on lethal injection in a case that made fashl headlines. an inmate in oklahoma writhed in pain for 43 minutes after being given an untested mix of drugs. some states are considering alternative methods including firing squads and the gas chamber. the hearing could determine whether they turned to such methods. this will be the first time justices are discussing leagual injection in years. uc davis is using controvercy tow teach students rather than punish them. a photo is being called racially

insensitive and they were wearing clothes that poke fun at male hispanic groups. they decided to hold and for all uc davis sports teams. they have since apologized. >> the city of santa cruz is setting a local minimum wage limit. the sentinel reports the city council signed off to research what the area could afford given the number of small businesses. santa cruz is hoping to have their own limits in place before a $10 minimum wage kicks in in january. they rejected a uber is looking to haul much more than just people. the company is launching a new delivery app to enable drivers

custody after shots were fired at police officers in east oakland. they say under cover officers were conducting operations when the situation turned violent. they were pursuing a group of men in the car when they opened fire. the car crash and police arrested two men and one got. they set up a large perimeter looking for the third suspect. they also searched a house. >> as we were worried about the family is other occupants that can be held hostage. they were able to clear the house and make sure the family was safe. >> police tracked down the third suspect and arrested them. police say all three men were wanted for violent crimes and did not say what the crimes were. >> 6:32 and great swallow the family of a petaluma man in nepal who turned up alive. live in the newsroom with the details.

petaluma high school when the earthquake hit. they had a series of avalanches. 18 people died on the mountain. he told his dad he is being airlifted back down to kathmandu. his family updated a website where they were posting information. they thanked people for support and prayers. >> 6:34. a sunnyvale man was among the killed at a base camp. friends say the 48-year-old was an avid hiker and mount had always been on his bucket list. friends are planning a memorial hike in his honor. >> more than 5,000 people. more than 10,000 were injured in the quake. the state department said 436

6:44 on this wednesday. police are trying to determine if there more potential victims of a surgical technician of groping patients while under anesthesia. >> live at the medical facility where police say it happened. chris? >> reporter: this is the start of what could be a very lengthy

investigation. redwood city police identified at least four possible victims. let's take a look at the suspect. this is 55-year-old robert lassinger of fremont booked into the san mateo county jail and arrested on sexual pabadly. the technician is suspected of molesting male patients while they were sedated. the act happened at this out patient facility between march 15th and april 2nd. he was placed under administrative leave after employees called employees after reportedly catching him in the act. he worked at stanford medicine for nearly seven years. >> he was a long-term employee, but there may be official victims or locations where he worked. >> as investigators dive into his background, they want to see if there may be additional victims as you mentioned.
